On November 6th, the opening ceremony of 2020 Xuyue New Great Wall Scholarship Program in Lianghe County No. 1 Middle School was held at Multifunctional Hall of the school.  Donors of Xuyue New Great Wall Self-reliance Class, including Li Xinghua, Yu Shixin, Wang Zhuping, Han Xinzhai, Han Chensheng, and Fang Zechang, Assistant Director of China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, Huang Yongxia , Senior Program Manager of New Great Wall Scholarship Program, Zhang Yunxia and students of Xuyue Self-reliance Class attended the ceremony.

Self-reliance Class in Lianghe County No. 1 Middle School

      Zhang Yunxia, Senior Program Manager of New Great Wall Scholarship Program, introduced China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, New Great Wall scholarship Program (for high school students) and Self-reliance Class.

    Cun Daizhong, the vice principal of the school, reported the situation and management of Self-reliance Class. He hoped that the students of Self-reliance Class would focus on self-improvement and persist in learning in order to realize their dreams.

      Beneficiary students said that they would adapt to changes around them,  cultivate the pleasure of pursuing knowledge and strive for self-improvement. They expressed their sincere appreciation to the donors, teachers and parents, saying that they would study hard to get into dreamed universities in the future and pay back to the societyn.

      Donors shared their own stories, intending to encourage the students not to give up when encountering difficulties and setbacks.

   After the opening ceremony, students were divided into several groups, stood together and communicated with each other. Donors also made home visits and communicated with students’ parents, wishing that the students could have better lives with the power of knowledge and make contributions to the society in the future.

      Since 2010, China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation has supported students from families with financial difficulties in Lianghe County No. 1 Middle School for 11 years, benefiting 1102 students with a total input of RMB 3.4161 million. The New Great Wall Scholarship Program not only helps the poor students of Lianghe County No. 1 Middle School to solve the economic difficulties, but also helps students to become more confident and optimistic.

      The New Great Wall Scholarship Program for high school students was launched by China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation in 2007. It aims to help high-school students with financial difficulties by providing financial support, supplemented by community building and capacity training, so that students from poor families are able to improve skills while finishing their studies.

      From September 2007 to December 31,2019, the Program raised a total of RMB 253.24 million and disbursed RMB 144,39 million, benefiting 121,700 person-times and providing financial aids and educational supports for 52,900  impoverished high school students.
