On April 16, the launch ceremony of the Skill Development Training in Agriculture in Nepal Project, which is funded by Enlai Foundation was successfully hold in Tarakeshwor, Nepal. 60 persons including Mr. Krishna Bahadur Ghimire, the chief executive officer of Tarakeshwor; Ms. Mina Kumari Thapa, head of regional agricultural development department; Mr. Li Hongqi, the agricultural expert of Tibet Kunhua Agricultural Development Company Limited; Ms. Zou Zhiqiang, the Country Director of CFRD Nepal Office, local partners, training institutions and beneficiaries in this area attended the launch ceremony.

The chief executive officer Mr. Krishna Bahadur Ghimire expressed in his speech that “Tarakeshwor is one of the most water-scarce regions in Nepal, with 8 villages and a population of 200，000 permanent residents. In recent years, due to climate change, the dry season becomes even drier with less rain, and former fertile fields turned into dusty sands. In 2022, CFRD introduced the Community Water and Health Promotion Project and constructed the systems of drinking and irrigation in 2 villages in this area, alleviating the water shortages and production for more than 300 families, which made them delighted. Today we welcome the help of the Enlai Foundation to provide 80 youths with training in vegetable planting techniques to promote local agricultural development and alleviate the problem of vegetable supply in the local community. Representing the government and residents of Tarakeshwor, I appreciate the support from CFRD and Enlai Foundation, which promotes the development here. The international Smiling Children Program is also conducted in our region, which provides meals for nearly 5000 students from 13 schools. In the future, we expect that CFRD to invest more programs and we will cooperate actively.”

The representative of the beneficiaries of the Skill Development Training in Agriculture in Nepal Project made a statement, “I’m grateful for CFRD and Enlai Foundation. The training not only provides technique guidance and full monitoring but also links to the sales channel. In the future, in addition to relying on my husband for short-term jobs, I will be able to grow vegetables for sale, thus life will no longer be difficult."

Agricultral expert Mr. Li Hongqi from Tibet Kunhua Agricultural Development Company Limited, which is the partner for the Skill Development Training in Agriculture in Nepal Project, introduced the current situation of agriculture development and wished a success for this training. He said，“Our company cultivates vegetable in Nepal. When the local youths gain fundamental skills of vegetables cultivation, we will introduce the seeds of Chinese vegetables here and expect Nepal vegetables could be exported to China.”

Ms. Zou Zhiqiang, the Director of Nepal Office for CFRD, said, “Thanks for the consistent support from Enlai Foundation to launch Enlai Youth Empowerment Program in Nepal and help local youths to improve professional skills. We hope that the beneficiaries of this training will cherish the opportunity to learn planting techniques and contribute to the development of Nepal's specialty agriculture and economy. Tarakeshwor is our first demonstration zone for a comprehensive program that integrates community water and health promotion, children's education support, and community development. We are looking forward that the launch of programs could alleviate the practical problems of Tarakeshwor and promote sustainable development.
