Backbone Project--Health Insurance for Poor Families' Labors

In 2017, under the guidance of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development and the National Health Commission, CFPA partnered with Alibaba Philanthropy, and the Philanthropy & Insurance Platforms of Ant Financial Services, aiming at targeted poverty alleviation strategies, designed and launched a philanthropic insurance project that provides insurances for the major labor in a family, hereinafter referred to as "Health Insurance for Poor Families’ Labors Project. This project focuses on the population who fell into poverty due to illnesses. The Health Insurance for Poor Families’ Labors Project provides tailored poverty alleviation insurances to poverty-stricken households with registered cards aged between 18 to 60 years old, so as to reduce the incidence of poverty caused by illness. The Project utilizes advantages of the Internet and the block chain technology to ensure complete transparency through tracking of funds.

From July 12, 2017 to December 31, 2018, the Project raised funds totaling RMB 136.18 million, benefiting a total of 4,253,200 person-times in 66 counties (cities/districts) in 12 provinces (autonomous regions), with an input of RMB 107.54 million.

In 2018, funds raised totaled RMB 119.53 million and expenditure totaled RMB 92.36 million, providing Supplementary medical insurances for 3.44 million registered poverty-stricken households.
