Second Briefing on Flood Relieve Actions in Southern China by Apple Inc.

After the flood disaster broke in Southern China, CFPA initiated urgent Humanitarian Relief Action in Flood of Southern China / You are My Strength. Members of the Humanitarian network started relief efforts in Provinces of  Guizhou, Yunnan, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Chongqing, Hubei, Hunan, Anhui and other cities in parallel, setting up Frontline Command in Hubei and Quotation Request Team in Hunan to consolidate procurement of disaster relief materials for allocation to the specific needs of each provinces (work stations)

 

Apple’ s pledged donation was received by CFPA on July 22. CFPA committed that all the costs will be transparent to Apple with substantiation documents. 10% management fees will be reserved for shipping and misc costs. 6.3 million yuan RMB will be used for 2 aspects: 4.3 million yuan RMB for urgent relief supplies procurement, including urgent needs of food and other daily necessities such as “family rescue boxes”; the rest for post-disaster App innovation activity aimed at flood disaster prevention;

 

4.3 million yuan RMB was used to buy 12,098 supplies of edible oil and grain as well as 8,422 kits of basic daily necessities (including toiletries, hygienic products, thin quilt and raincoat etc.) for heavily hit areas such as 15 districts and counties in Hunan Province, including counties of Anhua, Guzhang, Xinhua, Huarong and Xupu, and Hongan and Dawu counties in Hubei Province. Before the procurement, CFPA paid full efforts to evaluate the disaster situation and conduct the demand survey, based on the feedback and data, they developed the supplies supporting plan. CFPA has completed the procurement and handed out 901 supplies of edible oil and grain etc to the flooded victims in Anhua County of Hunan Province on July 23. In the following week, CFPA will continue to deliver the rest relief materials to the worst hit areas and their victims. 

 

Mr. WANG Peng, Assistant executive director of CFPA commented:” The donation from Apple comes at a right time to meet a pressing demand for the daily necessities of the victims in part of the flooded provinces and cities in Southern China, 20,520 victims are benefited from this donation! This timely response and generous donation will help the people in disaster go through at such a tough time in their lives…”

 

By 18:00 on 24th July, CFPA dispatched 208 people for flood relief to 26 counties in 8 provinces of Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui, Chongqing, Guizhou, Henan and Hebei, out of whom 9 people are from CFPA, 2 from the rescue team, 49 from 9 member organizations of the relief network and 148 volunteers working up to 25,000 hours in service in total, using 42 vehicles, 1 high-speed survey boat and 2 searching speed-boat.
