Established in 1989, China Foundation for Rural Development (formerly China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation) is a nationwide nongovernmental charitable organization registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs, PRC, and supervised by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, . It has become one of the largest and most influential philanthropic organizations in the field of poverty alleviation in China. By the end of 2021, CFRD had raised RMB 9.2 billion of funds and materials in total and benefited 57 million person-times of poverty-stricken population and people in disaster-stricken pop.

Over the past 33 years, CFRD has won wide recognition from the public due to its sound internal governance, program management, and social performance. In September 2016, CFRD was one of the first to be certified by the Ministry of Civil Affairs as a charitable organization eligible for public fundraising. CFRD has been consistently endeavoring to fulfill its mission: disseminate good and reduce poverty, help stakeholders to achieve their aims, and make the good more powerful, by taking responsibilities to respond to social problems, building partnerships with donors, volunteers and different stakeholders, promoting reforms and innovations, and widely mobilizing social forces to participate in poverty alleviation.

Internationally, we have carried out humanitarian relief and poverty reduction work in 25 countries and regions, accumulatively inputting RMB 307 million of cash and materials, benefiting more than 1.65 million person-times by 2021. At present, CFRD has implemented long-term projects in Myanmar, Nepal, Laos, Cambodia, and Ethiopia, with Myanmar and Nepal offices officially registered in 2015，Ethiopia Office officially registered in 2019.
